Third and Final Qualifier

Good Day to you all.

This Sunday, December 1, at the O'Leary Legion, is the last of the qualifiers for team PEI. I want to express how happy we, the executive, are with the turn out, and a special thank you to all who have played in one or both qualifiers in Fortune and Afton. The point structure and current results can be found on our website:

There are a few items I would like to bring up with everybody before the O'Leary qualifier in completing the qualifiers.

Firstly, Two months before the qualifiers we had a majority vote of our members that the final results of the qualifiers for each person would be the sum of their 2 best results out of the 3 qualifiers. So remember, if you had a bad day at one of the first 2 in Fortune and Afton, and you have a better result in the last one in O'Leary, your lowest of the 3 results will be dropped. Also, if you had 2 good days already, the third qualifier gives you a chance to defend your rank. This makes the final day quite important, and rankings are still quite open.

Secondly, there was some confusion at the conclusion of the Afton Qualifiers. To break all ties in a daily tournament we use the official NDFC tie breaking rules. In a quick summary, it works like this:

1) If the tie that is being broken causes a person to be eliminated from a bracket that is advancing to an upcoming round, there will be a 1 game playoff.

When it comes to both of the qualifiers so far, This would only take effect in the first round for the men's side as there was a preliminary bracket to find the top 16 group.

2) If there is no advancing round, any ties are settled using a "countback" procedure, or what we have called "rollback". This procedure takes the Win-Loss record of each person within the tie and seeds accordingly. In a case of 3 or more teams in a single tie, if the countback shows at least 3 still tied, 9 darts from each team are thrown to determine rank.

When it comes to both qualifiers thus far, the men's final 16 and women's brackets do not have an advancing round as it is the final round robin therefore they would never play an additional playoff game for these rankings.

For a more detailed description of the NDFC tie-breakers, you can view everything in their tie-breaking document.

Lastly, The upcoming qualifier is the last of the qualifiers and we want to finalize overall rank that night. Since the final score for each person is a sum of their best 2 of 3 qualifiers, it will not be fair to 'countback' for any tied rank after the third qualifier is complete. Any and all ties for all ranking will be done with a 1 game of 701 playoff game. We really want to try and finalize everything Sunday night. So if you are tied in the final ranking, we are asking to play that 1 extra game before leaving. We know it is a long day and everyone is tired, but the sooner we can finish this the sooner we can move on and prepare for nationals. We know that everyone cannot be in O'Leary, and we cannot expect all players to be there in case of ties. If there are ties and the required people are not available December 1st, an additional date will be chosen after discussion with the unavailable people.

Remember, we will be starting at 1:00pm this Sunday and cutoff time for registration is 12:45pm. According to NDFC rules, accepting registrations after cutoff time is not allowed. So please if you are going to be late, let someone on our executive know ASAP.

Once again, thank you for everyone's participation and being part of this membership. This is our first run at qualifiers, and in the future years, this can only get better.
