President’s Report 2022

Monday, September 12, 2022

I would like to welcome everyone to another great season of darts on PEI.  As I am now half-way through my 2nd elected term as President of PEIDA, I would be remised if I did not take the opportunity here today, on record, to recognize and give thanks to the Membership.  I would like to recognize the steadfast and unconditional support we have received, both as an Executive Board, and as an Association as a whole.  This support has been evident since the first day the PEIDA has existed but has been especially appreciated through the challenges of the past two years in the face of COVID-19 and the pandemic restrictions we, like everyone, were faced with. Darts is a social sport.  To have restrictions in place preventing us from gathering to play the game we all love, has not been easy to overcome, however, we find ourselves here today on what we hope, is the other side of those challenges and the pandemic itself.

During the season last year, I watched as our Team Qualifiers were continuously displaced and delayed.  I then watched as our players returned and forged ahead with our events, even wearing masks while they played.  We are stubborn!  It was a sense of pride though to watch as people did what was required to play for the love of the game.

In June of this year, I was fortunate enough to be part of our Provincial Team as we departed for Toronto to play at the National Championships.  It was a week of uncertainty for me personally and I think even so for our team as we participated for the first time under the PEIDA name.

I would like to personally thank our Director, Christina.  Christina’s efforts and many hours of work and involvement helped make the week a complete success.  Christina was unwavering in her commitment to the team and the event.  Even in the face of adversity, she remained calm and professional.  We as a board and as an association are forever grateful for your contributions.  Thank You!

To Team PEI 2022 – I want to say that is was a great privilege to be your teammate in Toronto.  The sense of comradery and friendship on the National stage is something I will cherish forever.  Your performances and never say quit attitudes are a sense of Provincial pride.  I encourage anyone who has not experienced this event and is still considering it to tryout.

At the last AGM in 2021, Steff was elected as VP of Operations.  I would like to recognize Steff for his efforts and contributions at all of our qualifying and fundraising events last season.  The feedback I have received from our members is that the events are professional, organized and very well done.  I agree 100%.  Steff has been a powerhouse addition to the Executive Board and I look forward to having him spearhead upcoming events.  I also want to recognize his contributions in Toronto on behalf of Team PEI as well.  Thank you!

I would also like to take a moment to thank Holly for her tenure as Treasurer for PEIDA.  Holly’s contributions both on the Executive Board and as well as at our events are very much appreciated.  Thank you!

Today, through our election process, we have elected new or welcomed back returning board members.  Thank you for all who may have offered their names and to those elected, I want to assure you that you will be welcomed to the Executive Board with cooperation and ongoing support.  Know that your voice matters and that we offer a transparent and professional environment.

The upcoming season will be a rebound season for darts on PEI and nationally.  I believe, as we move through the year, we will see growth and development.  I am grateful and anxious to see our youth movement kickstarted under the direction of our newly elected Youth Director, Tracy.  I ask that anyone interested in helping Tracy execute her events, to please let us know.  Without a successful youth movement, our future will be in jeopardy as a sport on PEI.

I am very excited to see our latest qualifiers begin in October.  I ask that if you know anyone who may be interested in trying out, please reach out to them.  I am also very hopeful to see a return to hosting an Open on PEI sometime on 2023.  PEIDA has grown since its inception and that is due to hard work and cooperation.  We are only as strong as our members.  Have a great season of sportsmanship and success.
Thank You,

Stephen Clow,
President, PEIDA
