Compromise Reached for Youth Participation at Red Rock Open
Over the past week, we have received a lot of support from players, parents, and fans across the darts community. Your messages, comments, and stories have meant a great deal to us and have helped push this conversation forward.
We are pleased to share that a compromise has been reached following our discussions with the PEI Liquor Commission. This agreement will allow youth players to continue taking part in all events at the Red Rock Open.
An alcohol-free section will be set up in the courtyard area. The number of dart boards in this section may change throughout the weekend as needed. We will carefully track when youth players are scheduled to play and make sure they are placed on a board within the alcohol-free area. While this section may be separated from the other boards in their section, it ensures that youth players can still participate in every event without being moved to a small room downstairs.
Youth players will also be allowed to enter alcohol-permitted areas upstairs for short periods of time, such as when registering for events, checking in with a guardian, or playing in a final match on stage. However, they will not be permitted to stay in these areas for extended periods, which means they unfortunately will not be able to sit and watch other matches or mark games.
We believe this is a positive step forward that allows all players to be included while meeting the requirements set by the Liquor Commission. We also appreciate that the Commission has expressed interest in continuing discussions for future events to explore more options that support youth participation.
Thank you to everyone who shared your messages and showed support throughout this process. Your voices made a real difference, and we look forward to an exciting and successful Red Rock Open weekend for everyone.
